We are pleased to announce the timing for the Marc Floresca "Ironman" inline hockey tournament to be held at the Cordova Skate Center on Sept 6-7, 2009. The goal of this tournament is to raise funds for the Marc Floresca Recovery Fund and all proceeds generated will flow to this fund. His greatest love, besides his family, is hockey. We want the entire community to rally behind this tournament as a way to support him- both emotionally and financially.
For those not familiar Marc Floresca is a long time Memphis hockey dad, player, and coach in the roller hockey and ice hockey community. Marc permanently injured his lower back when a tree struck him during the severe thunderstorms that swept through Memphis on June 12, 2009. At this time Marc is still paralyzed from below the waist and is recovering at the Shepherd Center in Atlanta, GA. Marc is due to return back home to Memphis in approximately two weeks.
Two days of rink availability have been donated by Cordova Skate Center and we want to fill all available spots- first with youth teams and then with adult teams as space permits. The format will be ironman 4 on 4 (plus goalie) with no substitutions and a 3 game guarantee over the weekend. Please see the attached flyer for details and please pass this along to all in the roller and ice hockey community to build the largest support base possible.
If you can assist with the tournament (including registration, refereeing, etc) please let me know. Players can build their own team and register as a group or I'll be happy to collect individuals and place on a team as needed.
Thanks in advance for your support.
Tom Mantel
